MARIETTA - Jean Spears Crates peacefully passed away on February 7, 2025, in her home in Marietta, GA.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Douglas Spears, Co-founder of the law firm Spears, Moore, Rebman and Williams; her mother, Corinne Webb Spears; sister, Corinne Silas Spears; and husband, Rear Admiral Robert C. Crates.
Jean grew up in Chattanooga, TN where she graduated from Girls Preparatory School. She also attended Hollins College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She was very active in her churches over the years singing in the choir and attending various bible studies. She was also involved in prayer ministry at St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Christian Healing Ministries in Jacksonville, FL. Jean also loved playing on the Florida Yacht Club tennis team, attending step aerobics or Pilates classes, and going on long walks with her daughter.
She is survived by her two children, Borden Rhea Hallowes, Jr. (Celi), and Suzanne Lynn Hallowes, her niece, Katherine Landis Spurlock, and nephew, William Spears Spurlock.
A service will be held at Church of the Apostles on February 24, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if you wish to make a donation in her honor, please consider Church of the Apostles or Village of Hope Romania.

Plant a tree: How does it work
When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.
An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.
After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.
Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.

Orders placed in:
January - May
Planting will take place in Spring or Summer of the same year.
June - December
Planting will take place in Spring of the following year.
